Where is my data?
Spendle is a client-side application. All calculations, reports and filters run in your browser. The Spendle account serves as a back-up and synchronisation channel between your devices.
Locally on your device
Section titled “Locally on your device”Spendle stores your administration in the built-in database of your browser (IndexedDB). This is local storage that only the Spendle app itself can read — no other website can access it.
The data is encrypted with the password you set per administration. Even if someone gains access to your computer, nothing can be read without that password.
In your Spendle account
Section titled “In your Spendle account”When signed in to a Spendle account with synchronisation enabled, an encrypted copy is stored in your Spendle account. That copy:
- is encrypted with your administration password (not your account password);
- cannot be read by Spendle — it does not hold that password;
- is accessible only from your own Spendle account. To collaborate with someone else, sign in with the same account on both devices — see Share administration.
At your bank
Section titled “At your bank”Transactions are retrieved from your bank via PSD2. The connection runs through GoCardless, the certified PSD2 provider that manages access to your bank account. Consent is granted once at your bank, valid for up to 180 days depending on the bank.
