Creating an administration
An administration is the digital equivalent of a paper household budget book: a collection of accounts, transactions and categories that belong together. For most people, one administration covers the entire household.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”-
Open Spendle and click the hamburger menu on the left.
-
Choose Open. A list of existing administrations is shown — on a fresh install this list is empty.
-
Click New administration. Give it a name (for example Personal or Household) and choose a password.
-
Choose an administration template. The default Nibud template pre-fills the Nibud category structure. Empty creates an administration without categories; that template can be filled in later via More > Categories > action menu > Update categories from template.
-
Confirm. The administration opens immediately and is ready to use.
Renaming an administration
Section titled “Renaming an administration”The name of an existing administration can be changed via Save as. Spendle creates a copy under the new name; the original file remains as a fallback.
-
Open the administration whose name you want to change.
-
Click the administration name in the hamburger menu.
-
Choose Save as and enter the new name.
-
Re-enter the administration password.
The old working file can then be removed via the Open menu. At the next synchronisation with the Spendle account the new name is also applied online. The old administration can then be removed from the account as well.
Multiple administrations?
Section titled “Multiple administrations?”In most cases one administration per household is sufficient. If something needs to be kept separate — for example a specific savings goal or an experiment with a new budget method — a second administration can be created. Switch between them via the hamburger menu. Each administration has its own password.
