Balance correction

Sometimes the calculated balance on a given date differs from the actual balance. A balance correction creates one correction transaction that cancels out that difference, without touching any other transactions.

A balance correction is meant for situations where the difference between the calculated and actual balance can no longer be explained by individual transactions. For example, a missing or doubly imported transaction somewhere in the past that can no longer be traced.

To correct the balance at the end of a specific day, the correction transaction is placed on the following day.

Example: the balance at the end of 31 December 2024 should be 1,000, but Spendle calculates 1,100.

  1. Open the account on the Balance tab and choose Balance correction from the action menu.

  2. Enter 31 December 2024 as the date — the day you want to correct.

  3. At New balance, enter the bank balance of 1 January 2025 (start of the day): 1,000. Spendle calculates the difference.

  4. Click Next. Spendle creates a correction transaction for the difference.

  5. Change the date of the correction transaction from 31 December 2024 to 1 January 2025 and save the transaction.

  6. In the transactions screen, choose Recalculate balance from the action menu.
