Budget for new year
The turn of the year is a good moment to update the budget per category. In Spendle there are two approaches: manually per category or all at once with the budget wizard.
Adjusting per category
Section titled “Adjusting per category”-
Open the Insight tab and set the period to the coming year.
-
Click Expenses (or Income, depending on what needs updating).
-
Click Budget to see the budget overview.
-
Go through the categories and click the one to adjust.
-
Open the budget rule and choose Adjust this budget from…
-
Enter the new amount, valid from the start date. The old rule is automatically closed one day before that date.
All at once with the budget wizard
Section titled “All at once with the budget wizard”With the budget wizard budget rules for the entire year are created or updated in one go. The wizard offers four actions:
- Copy budget from <previous year> — copies the budget from the specified year.
- Actual pattern from <previous year> — based on the actual income and expenses of the specified year.
- Blank budget — fill in manually.
- Apply options only — applies the options below to existing budget rules, without generating new rules.
Three additional options are available:
- Adjust amounts by a percentage (for example +3% for inflation).
- Update past months — sets the budget of completed months to the actual amounts.
- Set end date to end of <year> — closes the budget rules on 31 December of the target year.
