From the ideas box — late October 2026
Requests came in this month via the ideas box about the budget and about action rules.
Budget left
Section titled “Budget left”A user noticed that To go only counted categories that were still within budget. Overspending counted as 0. Because of this, the total of a group looked too positive.
That is why there is now Budget left: the budget minus the actual amount. Budget left can be negative. For a group or total, Spendle adds up all categories.

To go still exists, but means something different. See below.
What does what mean?
Section titled “What does what mean?”Besides budget left, there are to go, forecast and position. Budget left looks back: what is left? To go, forecast and position look ahead: what is still to come? An overview with an example is in Budget, actual, budget left and forecast.
To go can be chosen as a column in the budget reports. Turn on More > Settings > Show to go to also show it in the budget sheet and in Insight.
Budget sheet
Section titled “Budget sheet”- The amount display at the top left has two new options: Budget left and To go. To go is turned on with More > Settings > Show to go.
- Hovering over an amount now shows the same list: Budget, Actual, Budget left, To go, Prognosis and Position.
- Categories can be grouped per group or group type, with subtotals and groups that can be collapsed. See Budget per group.
Write off
Section titled “Write off”The Write off button in the category details now creates a budget rule that sets budget left to 0. The budget then equals the actual amount. The category details window is also a little taller, so more budget rules fit.
Transactions of one action rule
Section titled “Transactions of one action rule”In an action rule, the menu (⋮) has the option Show transactions. It shows all transactions that were assigned by this rule. Clicking the yellow Filtered on bar opens the rule again.
When running action rules without checked transactions, there is a checkbox Only current filter. When it is on, the rules only apply to the transactions in the list. The counter shows how many transactions this concerns. See Fix wrongly assigned transactions.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”The features are available in the web app from late October 2026. Activate via Menu → Software update. The Android and iOS apps will follow later.
Submitting ideas
Section titled “Submitting ideas”Ideas are welcome via the ideas box. Not everything can be implemented directly or technically, but every submission is taken into account in the further development of Spendle.
